Rev. 1: Jesus Is Bigger Than Any King
Jesus Is Bigger Than Any King
Story to read: The Vision
Bible: Revelation 1
The Picture
A long time ago, a man named John loved Jesus very much. One day, Jesus let John see something amazing: Jesus, alive and shining, standing right in the middle of his church, like a shepherd standing in the middle of his sheep to keep them close and safe.
John saw Jesus shining bright — brighter than the sun! Jesus was strong, and kind, and alive. When John saw him, he felt so amazed that he fell down. But Jesus reached out his hand and said, “Don’t be afraid. I am alive. I am always with you.”
That’s the same Jesus we know today. He is bigger and stronger than any king, any president, any grown-up in charge of anything — and he is right here with us, too, just like he was right there with his church.
Our Refrain
Let’s say it together, now and every week:
“Jesus wins, and he loves us.”
Say it once quietly. Say it once loudly. Say it once while jumping!
Activity
Stand Tall Like Jesus: Have the children stand up nice and tall, arms out wide like sunshine rays, and say “Jesus is strong!” Then have them wrap their arms around themselves in a hug and say “and Jesus is kind!” Repeat two or three times.
Coloring option: Give children a simple outline of a shining sun or a bright star to color, and tell them it reminds us how bright and alive Jesus is.
Simple Prayer
Have each child repeat after you, one small phrase at a time:
“Jesus, thank you for being strong. Thank you for being right here with me. Amen.”
Note for the Teacher
Keep the description of Jesus warm and bright, not overwhelming — “shining like the sun,” “strong like the strongest person you know,” and “kind, like the best hug ever.” There’s no need to describe every detail from Revelation 1 (the sword, the eyes like fire); the point for this age is simply: Jesus is alive, Jesus is strong, and Jesus is right here.
