The Picture

Jesus asked John to write letters — seven of them! — to seven different churches, which were groups of people who loved Jesus and met together, kind of like our own church family. And here’s the wonderful part: each letter was different, because Jesus knew each church so well. He knew what each one was doing well, and he knew just what each one needed to hear.

Jesus sees us the exact same way. He’s not far away or too busy. He sees you — really you — and he knows exactly how your day is going, what makes you happy, and what makes you a little sad. And just like those letters, whatever Jesus has to say to you starts with love.

“Jesus wins, and he loves us.”

Ask: “Does Jesus know your name?” (Yes!) “Does Jesus see you right now?” (Yes!)

Activity

A Letter From Jesus: Give each child a small piece of paper folded like a little letter or envelope. Help them write or dictate their name on the front (“To: ______”). Inside, write (or have a helper write) one simple, true, encouraging sentence for that child, such as “Jesus sees you and loves you” or “Jesus is glad you are you.” Let each child decorate their letter with stickers, hearts, or crayon drawings.

Simple game option: Play a gentle “mail carrier” game — children walk around in a circle holding their letters and gently “deliver” them to each other with a smile, then return to their own.

Simple Prayer

“Jesus, thank you for knowing my name. Thank you for seeing me and loving me. Amen.”

Note for the Teacher

There’s no need to explain the specific problems in each of the seven churches (false teaching, lukewarm faith, and so on) — that nuance belongs to the older track. For this age, the whole point is simply: Jesus pays close, personal, loving attention to each of us, one at a time, by name.
