Loud Trumpets, Big Warnings

Story to read: The Trumpets
Bible: Revelation 8–9

The Picture

John heard angels blow loud trumpets — like a big “TA-DA!” sound that gets everyone’s attention. Why did the angels blow trumpets? Because God wanted to warn people before anything bad happened, kind of like how a grown-up might say “Watch out!” before you bump into something — because they love you and want to keep you safe.

God always warns first, because he wants everyone, everyone, to turn back to him and be close to him. That’s how much he loves people — he doesn’t want anyone to miss out on him.

Our Refrain

“Jesus wins, and he loves us.”

Ask: “Why did God want to warn people?” (Because he loves them and wants them close!)

Activity

Trumpet Warning Game: Give children pretend trumpets (rolled-up paper tubes work great, or just cupped hands). When the leader calls out “Trumpet!” everyone lifts their pretend trumpet and shouts “Come back to God, he loves you!” Then everyone gives a big group hug or high-five to celebrate that God wants us close.

Coloring option: Color a simple picture of a golden trumpet with sound-wave swirls coming out of it.

Simple Prayer

“God, thank you for warning us because you love us. Help me stay close to you. Amen.”

Note for the Teacher

Skip describing what actually happens at each trumpet (Revelation 8–9 includes vivid, scary imagery) — for this age, the trumpets are simply “loud attention-getting warnings that show God loves people enough to warn them first.” That is the whole and complete lesson here.
