A Thousand Years of Jesus Being King

The Picture

John saw Jesus ruling as King — not someday far away, but starting right now, and it keeps going and going and going, for the longest time you can imagine, and then even longer than that. Jesus is already King. He isn’t waiting to become King later. He’s King today, and he’ll keep being King forever.

That means we don’t have to wonder or worry about who’s really in charge. Jesus is ruling right now, gently and lovingly, and that is never, ever going to change.

Our Refrain

“Jesus wins, and he loves us.”

Ask: “Is Jesus King someday, or is Jesus King right now?” (Right now! Always!)

Activity

Forever King Game: Have children take turns wearing a simple paper crown while everyone says together, “Jesus is King today, and Jesus is King forever!” Pass the crown around the circle so every child gets a turn, celebrating that Jesus’s kingship is something to celebrate together, not compete for.

Coloring option: Color a simple crown or throne, and write “Jesus is King — today and forever” underneath.

Simple Prayer

“Jesus, thank you for being King right now, and for always being King. Amen.”

Note for the Teacher

There is no need to explain the number “a thousand years” or any of the timeline questions around it — those are for a much later stage. For this age, simplify entirely to: Jesus is already ruling as King, right now, and that will always keep being true. Emphasize the present-tense confidence (“he’s King today”) over any sense of “someday.”
