Hosting (GitHub Pages)
The website is served by GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, GitHub processes the technical data it needs to deliver the page and secure its service, in particular your IP address, the date and time, the address requested and details of your browser.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is serving the website securely and reliably. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR). See GitHub’s privacy statement.
Visitor statistics (GoatCounter)
To see which pages are read, we count page views with GoatCounter, operated by Martin Tournoij, Ireland; the data is kept on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany and Finland.
GoatCounter sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not store IP addresses. It records the page viewed, the page you came from, browser and operating system, screen width, language, and the country derived from the IP address. To tell visits apart, it holds a combination of IP address and browser details in memory for at most eight hours, without storing it. We also count whether the website was installed or opened as an app, and whether a section was saved for offline reading.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is measuring readership with as little data as possible. See GoatCounter’s privacy policy.
Bible references (GlobalRize)
Bible references in the text can be shown in place. For this, every page loads a script from bible-link.globalrize.org, a service of the non-profit GlobalRize International, Centrumplein 2, 8084 AZ ’t Harde, the Netherlands (KvK 60103450). Your IP address is sent to GlobalRize, and, when you open a reference, the reference itself.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is letting readers read Bible passages without leaving the page.
Contact by email
If you write to us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to reply. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry concerns working together, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is answering your enquiry. We delete messages once they have been dealt with and no retention duty applies.
Offline reading and the app
Pages you read, or choose to save for offline reading, are stored in your browser’s storage on your device, so they are available without an internet connection. Your browser likewise remembers if you closed a hint, such as the one about installing the app. This data does not leave your device. Storing it is strictly necessary for a feature you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). You delete it by clearing the website’s data in your browser or removing the app.
The installable app shows the same website and collects no further data.
Links to other websites
Book recommendations link to retailers such as Amazon or Hugendubel. Data goes to them only when you click such a link; their privacy policies then apply.
Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Write to the email address above. You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), the competent one being the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
