If you picked this up out of curiosity, or a friend invited you, or you’ve always wondered what’s actually in that strange last book of the Bible with the dragons and the number 666 — welcome. You don’t need to know anything about the Bible to start here. You don’t need to already believe anything either. All you need is a willingness to look at the actual text with fresh eyes.
Here’s an honest confession up front: the Book of Revelation has a bad reputation, and it’s partly earned. It’s been used to sell doomsday calendars, to fuel bad movies, and to scare people into church pews. If your picture of Revelation is “a scary forecast of the end of the world,” you’re not being unreasonable — that’s genuinely how it’s often been sold. Part of what these eight sessions want to do is show you something different: what the book actually says, in its actual first-century context, to actual struggling people.
Because that’s really what Revelation is. It’s a letter, written by a man named John to seven real churches in real cities, at a time when following Jesus could cost you your business, your reputation, your freedom, or your life. It’s not primarily a puzzle to decode or a countdown to a future disaster. It’s a message to discouraged, pressured, ordinary people, reminding them who is actually in charge of the world and why that’s good news.
Over these eight sessions, we’ll walk through some of the book’s biggest, most important ideas: what kind of book this even is, the world it was written into, why worship (not disaster) sits at its center, the real churches it was written to, who the “villain” of the story actually is, why 666 isn’t a code for you to crack, and how the whole story ends — which, spoiler, is good news. We’ll close with a simple question: now what?
You don’t have to accept everything here today. You’re welcome to disagree, ask hard questions, and sit with your doubts. All we ask is that you give this often-misunderstood book a fair hearing before deciding what to make of it. Many people who’ve done that have found something they didn’t expect: not fear, but hope.
