The Story: Told Aloud
This is Revelation as a performance script, not a page to read in silence. It is written for a storyteller or elder to speak out loud to a gathered group, with the people themselves joining in - calling back a refrain, feeling the rhythm, carrying the story home in their own mouths the way stories have always traveled: by ear, from one generation to the next.
Nothing in the story changes. Only the shape of the telling does, so that it survives being spoken aloud and remembered long after the telling is over.
Best for: a storyteller, elder, or leader performing the story with a group - around a fire, in a church gathering, or anywhere the spoken word carries further than the written page.
Production notes
This script is meant to be performed, not read silently. One narrator carries the story aloud; the whole group answers together at the All respond: lines, using the same refrain from beginning to end so it only needs to be taught once - after that, the people will call it back on their own before the narrator even finishes asking. Repetition, short lines, and rhythm are doing the work that footnotes would do on a page. This form works especially well wherever oral tradition, not the written word, is the main way stories are carried from one generation to the next.
