Here’s something that surprises a lot of people: the word “Antichrist” never actually appears in Revelation. It comes from John’s letters (1 John 2, 4), where it describes anyone who denies Jesus - already present in John’s own day, not one specific future individual.
What Revelation does have is a “beast” - actually a whole trio: a dragon (Satan), a beast from the sea (a power that rules by force), and a beast from the earth (a power that deceives through religious-looking wonders). Together they form a dark parody of God, Christ, and the Spirit. In their first-century setting, this pointed to Rome and its emperor cult - but the pattern (violent power dressed up with a spiritual-sounding deception) has shown up again throughout history, and the text seems more interested in helping us recognize the pattern than in naming one final individual to watch for.
